9/13/11 - Transgender Remembrance Candlelight Walk and Speak-Out
Join the Pride Coalition of Rockland County to remember those we have lost this year through violence related to transphobia. We will gather at the Nyack Library directly after the screening of "Through My Eyes"
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=123179494453117
With lit candles we will walk to Veteran's Memorial Park in Nyack where we will hold a moment of silence in honor of those lost. We will conclude with an open speak out led by Anais Surkin, LGBTQ Coordinator, Rockland Family Shelter.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) was founded in 1998 to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of transphobia/binary-genderism (the hatred or fear and oppression of transgender and gender non-conforming people) and to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community. This year's national transgender day of remembrance will be November 20th. Trans-pride ribbons will be distributed at the event to be worn between November 13th- November 20th.
