Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families Program is a seven-session behavioral skills training program, 2 hours each session. Children meet separately with trained facilitators for one hour to learn how to understand feelings, control their anger, resist peer-pressure, comply with parental rules, solve problems and communicate effectively. Children also develop their social skills and learn about the consequences of substance use.

Parents also meet for one hour with a trained facilitator to learn strategies to increase positive interactions with their children. They also discuss clear communication, effective discipline, substance use, problem solving and limit setting.

During the second hour of the session, families engage in structured family activities, conduct family meetings, improve their communication skills, practice proactive effective discipline, and plan family activities.
